The Artios UXO risk assessment process

  • This initial stage is in place to quickly determine if whether or not a site has a potential  UXO risk. Involving  an initial desk study, our experts will research historical records, maps and photos for the site to identify potential WWII bombing and any other military activity. We then create an initial risk assessment to determine the likelihood of UXO being present and the consequences that could arise if, for example, it was encountered during excavation work. After the preliminary risk assessment is complete, we will advise on next steps, which might suggest there is no further action required or highlight the need for a detailed UXO risk assessment to be completed.

  • This stage represents the thorough investigation of a UXO risk within specific site boundaries. In-depth analysis of higher-risk areas identified through a PRA will involve systematic and a more comprehensive research and analysis. This assessment is structured to Stages 2 and 3 of the Risk Management Strategy outlined in the industry-standard 'CIRIA C681 UXO - A Guide for the Construction Industry. All our DRAs include a transparent, easily digestible risk mitigation plan for both health and safety and business interruption. This is based on a quantified risk rating and accompanied by a zoned map, illustrating the UXO risk in different parts of the site.
